Bogart, Ben Fordham and KIIS benefit from Kyle and Jackie O’s departure – GfK Survey 2 cumes

The expectation coming into GfK Radio 360 Survey 2 was that KIIS 1065 would see an impact on listenership from the departure of Kyle and Jackie O. But that is not quite what happened. While their Sydney percentage share of ear was down 1%, cume listening to breakfast and the station was markedly up. In all the kerfuffle too their departure from the Melbourne market was equally significant with more than 80,000 returning to check out the station.

Survey 2 belonged to smooth 95.3 and Bogart Torelli (pictured) on breakfast, the most listened to radio station and breakfast show in the country. 2GB’s Ben Fordham who holds the highest percentage of Sydney breakfast audience was also a beneficiary of alternative seekers that may translate across this year to numbers akin to stablemates Russ and Ross at 3AW in Melbourne.

SCA should be very happy indeed too with the growth in listening for Triple M and The Fox in Melbourne, Mix 94.5 in Perth and Triple M in Sydney.

Nath and Emma at 2DayFM also had a great survey, picking up 44,000 listeners. That 2Day looks to be finally getting somewhere, especially with Kyle and Jackie gone, is made all the more frustrating in that they have tinkered with their music format to return to something safer. This might not affect the hard work Nath and Emma are putting in, but it may not help either.

With all the attention on K&J, Christian O’Connell‘s Sydney results will be disheartening for ARN. After the initial seismic shift of Jonesy and Amanda listeners in Survey 1 away from Gold 101.7, the network and Christian put some effort into a campaign to win them back. Survey 2 saw another drop in listeners and more tellingly no notable cumulative gain. It looks like they’ve chosen Bogart or Ben.

Fifi, Fev and Nick at the Fox FM in Melbourne came within a whisper of dethroning Jase and Lauren from No 1 most listened to breakfast show in that city. A big two surveys for the former.

The ABC in Sydney and Melbourne fared badly, as did triple j post their Hottest 100 gains. ABC Perth, and breakfast presenter Mark Gibson however did very well.

A final note – going back through cume numbers over the last couple of years this looks to be the biggest numbers that smooth 95.3 and Bogart Torelli have ever seen in Sydney. Congratulations to the smooth team and to Nova Entertainment.
