2RPH is turning 21 and to celebrate its birthday the station is presenting “an entirely old-fashioned radio show” at Belvoir Street Theatre.
Sydney’s print handicap radio station is hosting the fundraising night of radio nostalgia next Monday 23 August, 2004.
Bob Rogers will join noted actors John Bell, Alastair Duncan, Jacqueline Kott and Jacki Weaver, as Master of Ceremonies for this special event.
Four old favourite radio serials, Dad & Dave, Dr Paul, I Hate Crime and Ada & Elsie, will be performed with live support from the original man of sound effects, Peter Wilkinson, and music from entertainer Glen Amer.
The 2RPH singers are sure to tug at the heart-strings with their rendition of old-time ads and a capella station announcements.
2RPH, Radio for the Print Handicapped, Sydney (1224AM), began broadcasting 21 years ago to service the needs of people unable to read newspapers and other print media.
The station provides readings from all major newspapers, journals and publications for those who are visually impaired and physically disadvantaged and is even used as a training guide for people learning to speak English.
2RPH enjoys a listenership of over 148,000 and covers the broader expanses of Sydney. The station’s 240 volunteers provide the service every day with many of the programs produced at 2RPH also distributed throughout RPH networks across Australia and New Zealand.
Amongst the highlights of the evening there will be raffle prizes including airline tickets, cruises and premium wines with all proceeds going toward the ongoing improvement of 2RPH.
The show will start at 7:00pm and will be followed by supper in the foyer with a chance for cast and guests to mingle.
Her Excellency, The Governor of NSW, Prof Marie Bashir, AC, and Patron of 2RPH will also be in attendance.
