Illawarra braves the cold and rain for the 2013 Camp Quality Convoy

This morning, Camp Quality’s Bill White announced the final tally for i98FM’s Camp Quality Convoy with i98 Breakfast Show hosts Marty Haynes and Bianca Dye. This year’s Convoy which was held on Sunday, November 17, raised an astounding total of $1,191,816.22 for Camp Quality Illawarra.

The event which is now in its 9th year saw 780 trucks and 872 motorbikes travel a distance of 70 kilometres from Illawarra Coal’s West Cliff Colliery at Appin, through the streets of the Illawarra, to finish up at the Croome Road Sporting Complex in Albion Park Rail.

The i98FM Camp Quality Convoy is open to all Truckies and Motorbike enthusiasts who register to take part for a $30 donation. The preceding Friday, the opportunity to take the coveted spot as the Lead Truck in the Convoy was fought out live to air with Marty and Bianca. Winning the top spot was Coastal Windows who originally made a very generous bid of $114,000. However, at Sunday’s event Rob Starcic who owns the company handed over a cheque for $120,000 to Camp Quality as support continued to roll in after the bidding was over.

The People’s Truck from McMahons Transport was second in the Convoy with their very generous donation of $102,640.80 followed by MJ Rowles who pledged $102,500. Enhance Fuels was fourth in line with a donation of $67,000 and Ross Transport also bid $54,000.

On Wednesday last week, the first ever bidding to lead the motorbikes in the Convoy was carried out with the winning donation of $10,000 shared amongst local companies Fastway Couriers, Riviera Pools and In Sight Landscapes.

From the lead truck and bike bids alone, a total of $793,890.80 had been raised before an engine had even started. The figure announced this morning now means that $4,410,522.86 has been raised for Camp Quality since the inaugural event in 2005.

All funds raised go directly to Camp Quality Illawarra who brighten the lives of kids with cancer by bringing hope and happiness to them and their families.

The Convoy fun day saw Guy Sebastian perform to a crowd of thousands who braved the rain along with Damien Leith, Bella Ferraro and local artist Sean Emmett.

A half an hour documentary about the Convoy will air on the WIN Network at 4pm on Saturday, November 30.
