To celebrate 40 years of triple j today they kicked off 40 years of music.
They’ve thrown open the triple j archives to play the best live recordings, studio interviews and extraordinary moments that have shaped popular music history over the past 40 years, from Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Tom Waits and AC/DC, to Daniel Johns, Missy Higgins, Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A., Hilltop Hoods, Lorde and LCD Soundsystem.
Every day at
10am &
3pm, from
Monday 1 to Saturday 20 June, triple j will pick a year from 1975 to now and play the biggest tracks of that year. They’ll also be playing five classic
Live At The Wireless songs at midday every day.
They’ve also put together a huge mixtape of 40 songs from 40 years which you can stream on Youtube, Spotify and RDIO including everyone from Chet Faker, Arctic Monkeys and Florence + the Machine to You Am I, Missy Elliott, Jeff Buckley, Nirvana and of course N.W.A.
Plus Double J are throwing The J Files over to you. The playlist will span 40 years worth of stories from music fans, programmed and presented entirely by listeners.
