$12 million ad spend on National Fuel Security Campaign

A $12 million ad campaign across a range of media outlets aims to make the public aware of the alert level for fuel usage and to deliver simple tips to help people save fuel, as the conflict in the Middle East shows no signs of abating.

The current Alert Level 2 asks people to take public transport, pump their tyres up a bit more and remove roof racks to reduce resistence and save petrol. It also reinforces the 4 level system to make the public aware that, should the Alert Level reach Stage 4, fuel rationing will be introduced. Prime Minister Albanese is currently visiting neighbouring Asian countries to shore up fuel supply chains in the hope that Australia will not have to reach level 4.

Media will be the beneficiaries of the campaign, with ad bookings allocated to radio, tv, print, outdoor and digital. It is not clear whether digital means social media or other digital outlets such as online publications, podcasts, etc

A spokesperson for the government’s Department of Infrastructure has told radioinfo:

“The National Fuel Security Campaign has a media budget of $12 million. The breakdown of the media channels is not currently available as optimisation and the performance of these media channels is ongoing.”

Drivers are encouraged to adopt simple, practical behaviours to use less fuel, “helping Australia’s supply to go further and saving fuel for our truckies, farmers and essential services.”

The tagline Every little bit helps aims to illustrate a shared responsibility to fuel consumption and fuel efficiency as a key component of the National Fuel Security Plan.
