AI in Radio? It’s Fuel, Not a Threat

Article by Kenny Wall.

I’ve been in radio long enough to watch formats flip, teams shuffle, and now AI enters the scene. And yeah, I get why some air talent feel uneasy. Automation sounds like the end of personality.

But let’s be real: previous AI radio stunts in the U.S. didn’t land. Why? Because listeners don’t just want sound, they want soul. They connect with real people. Shows like Kyle and Jackie O crush it because they’re unpredictable, charismatic, and emotionally raw. That’s not something you can code.

For me, AI isn’t competition, it’s motivation.

I use it to sharpen my act, challenge my delivery, and raise the bar. It’s become a toolset, not a threat. Especially in programming and production, where it lightens the load without dimming the magic.

Here’s what’s earned a spot in my workflow:

Suno
Need custom jingles without the usual budget drama? Suno’s your guy. Pick a genre, punch in some lyrics or let the tool take care of it. Tracks come back tailored and ready. Clean, quick, and way more cost-effective than traditional production houses. You can also get rid of the production library and use Suno. There is a small monthly fee for this service.

Eleven Labs
If you’re after sweepers or want alternate station voices, this one’s gold. Two options:

  • Type your copy, let it auto-generate (not bad, just a bit flat).
  • Or my go-to: record a dry read, upload it, and let Eleven Labs mimic your voice with your tone, pace, inflection intact. It’s weirdly accurate.

Looking for listener drops without the hassle? Eleven Labs is for you. Skip the studio runaround—just enter your line, select a voice, and you’re good to go.

For international accents, including Australian, “Voice Killer” offers AI-driven voice creation that responds to accent requests seamlessly. While the platform excels in polished vocals ideal for commercials and station promos, its sleek delivery may be too refined for casual drop-ins. Voice-changing features aren’t available yet, but the streamlined type-and-go functionality makes it a solid option. I bought the introductory lifetime membership for $67 USD.

ChatGPT, Grok, Copilot
These platforms are game changers for show prep and copy cleanup. Looking for artist trivia? Boom. Trimming a 45-second ramble into a tight, 20-second zinger? Done.

Even punchline ideas. Some hit, some miss, but they’re great launchpads when your creative tank’s running low.

Bottom line? These tools help me work smarter, faster, better. If your bandwidth’s stretched and your team’s been downsized, Partnered Programming can help pick up the slack. From music scheduling to imaging production, we deliver vendor-style solutions meaning it’s not payroll, it’s expense. And yeah, that’s potentially tax-deductible.
