I especially enjoyed the main ceremony, but I was disappointed that people were speaking while Alan Jones was reading the citations for the inductees into the Hall Of Fame.
It was good to see many people in the industry in the same place on the one night. The only person conspicuous by his absence was of course John Laws.
and while we are on the subject of dinner - how come it cost so much and we didnt even get dessert?
I've had a couple of Awards overseas for Broadcasting and a couple for commercials and it's always a good night with everything done to excess, but don't you think it's dumb when someone's touted as "Five-time Radio Award NOMINEE"? What that really means is that you failed to win the thing five whole times! And we nominate OURSELVES for God's sake! Money is the best Award of the lot.
it must be zara and troy from the austereo station who did the thing about jeff ellis...at least they tried..i think (as a presenter) it was odd to get a whole lot of high profile presenters there and just get them to open an envelope, and then get the dead bores to drone on while we finally got the chance to sit down and have a drink and a laugh.
Its the ultimate irony to me that you get a room full of radio announcers and then expect them to be SILENT.
The awards should either all be done at once at a sit down dinner, or before hand...but i think a sit down dinner as the awards go on is the way to go...then everyone can mingle the second its over _ i mean , thats really why we go, to catch up and have fun.
I enjoyed the night, but was disappointed that the presenters of the awards were not given an opportunity to speak. To the newly initiated it would have been great to have some words of wisdom from the big guns of the industry. I also thought there was not a lot of socially between the country , metro, and city stations. Surely there must be someway for everyone to mingle more successfully, It would make a better night socially. After all that is part of it and we are all in the same game. In regards to the Hall of Fame , I would much rather Alan Jones had said something simple and to the point about each inductee rather than read off the programme. It might have killed the talking if people couldn't have read along with him
I can't believe we didn't put Dan Westo up on the site for best music director metro. Well done buddy.
Where the hell was dessert???? $125 bucks and no @#%@'n ice cream! ... AND next year can maybe just one person be inducted into the hall of fame? Why not make it a big deal during the awards and make it a bit more special. I mean we are paying tribute to somebody's brilliance - put the spotlight on one person not 10 or so...
The complete list of all winners in the 2002 Commercial Radio Awards has now been uploaded to the website as requested in this forum.
Very early on Sunday morning I put many of the major winners up on the page. They were correct, but now there is a full list of winners in every category as promised.
Good to read a range of comments on our Industry awards. I would like to make a few points on this.
1. Any awards system will have flaws in judging. The winners this year were judged by a two different panels of industry peers from a wide cross section of positions within a station.
2. I think its fundamental to any industry that excellence be recognised , and the awards make a great contribution to that. To all the winners this year you are amongst the best in your field.
3. The presentation is always difficult to work out , this year we wanted to get as many of the industry involved as possible that means there becomes less opportunity for the presenters to speak. Next year this is probably an area we can pick up on. Overall though i thought it miles in front of some prior years.
4. The hall of fame speach was long but lets remember this year was a oncer with a dozen people being inducted , in subsquent years it wont be so many. I didnt think it to much to expect people to listen for what was 30 minutes given these people commitment to advancing our industry.
I think this year was one of he best yet and people voted with their feet with the highest crowd on record.
Next year will do even better
