It would be interesting to know how many commercial radio entries were actually received for judging ? Conversely, how many did the ABC submit nationally ? The results 'why' is no doubt based on both quantity & quality criteria.
On watching the Walkley Awards on SBS, I thought at the time the winners (Radio, Print & TV) thoroughly deserved their recognition for excellence, from research to delivery of the final product. It's heartening to see quality journalism still exists in Australia, despite factors working against such a standard.

Quite possibly it's because they aren't promoted as actively in Commercial radio as the ACRA's. I suspect the average radio journo in the country earning his $35,000 has never even heard of the Walkley awards. Ofcourse if you are a member of the MEAA you would know all about the Walkleys as they are a major promoter of the event.
But ofcourse hardly anyone is a member of the MEAA in commercial radio...there in lies the problem!
