Good talk back's not about fair & balanced presenters, it's about entertainment, boiling blood, inciting riots, getting people so worked up they just have to call.
Opinionated, announcers are perfect for this, however they must also have a degree of credibility otherwise your average listener will deem the announcer a goose & switch channels.
I believe we need more of them
Stan Zemaneck is probably the only one we have in the country right now but I don't think his audience sit on his every word, they listen to him just to fight
Lawsy on the other hand is not strictly a "shock jock"...by his own admission he's just a "humble DJ" but his audience hang on his every word and I believe Lawsy can change the thinking of those in power whether it's his sponsors or the government
When John goes it will be a sad day for talk back radio but there is Mike Hammond in the wings..he just gets better and better..
I wonder how long before 2GB offers to network Ray Hadley ? Think about it!
Shock Jock! We will only get shock jocks of any worth in this country when the networks start "playing to win" and not "playing not to lose". How many announcers have copped a serve for dropping a bucket full only to have sales paranoia pull them up.
Shock Jocks... stereotyping I think. Shock Jocks to me can be anyone who say something that is offensive to at least 1 person listening. Just saying the word "Damn" has offended a few senior citizens and likewise with the word "Hell" to church goers, "Heaven" to the other lot. "Crap" can get people going. If someone doesn't like them, complain or change the dial.
Bring on the Shock Jocks!
There is no problem that Anonymous User feels that the majority of our talkback hosts have right-leaning views. Their views may help balance the left-dominant (or left-sympathetic) reporting by many journalists and "personalities". Jones and Laws may no longer be representative of middle-class Australia (due to their annual salaries), but isn't middle-class Australia entitled to have right-leaning views?
