Radio is the greatest creative medium of them all. We paint pictures in the brain of the listener. So if you are not having fun some one is stopping you. Who? Is it you or is it some one up there on the food chain? Has some one at your station told you to 'GROW UP'?
Well read my favourite quote and find out what is happening to your creativity.
“WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD THE WORLD WAS MY MAGIC LANTERN AND BY ITS GREEN SPIRIT GLOW I SAW THE PAST, THE PRESENT, AND INTO THE FUTURE.
WE ARE BORN WITH WHIRLWINDS, FOREST FIRES AND COMETS INSIDE US. WE ARE BORN ABLE TO SING TO BIRDS AND READ THE CLOUDS AND SEE OUR DESTINY IN GRAINS OF SAND - BUT THEN WE GET THE MAGIC EDUCATED RIGHT OUT OF OUR SOULS.
WE GET IT CHURCHED OUT, SPANKED OUT, WASHED OUT AND COMBED OUT.
WE GET PUT ON THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW AND TOLD TO BE REPONSIBLE. TOLD TO ACT OUR AGE. TOLD TO GROW UP.
DO YOU KNOW WHY WE ARE TOLD THAT? BECAUSE THE PEOPLE DOING THE TELLING WERE AFRAID OF OUR WILDNESS AND YOUTH, AND BECAUSE THE MAGIC WE KNEW MADE THEM ASHAMED AND SAD AT WHAT THEY HAD ALLOWED TO WITHER INSIDE THEM.”
ROBERT McCAMMON – ‘BOYS LIFE’
Have fun. Think like a child. If they wont let you. MOVE ON!

I've always found radio to be fun, and I'd imagine anyone else would too. If not, then like any job, you should get out. I'm not in it to be a star on air....or brag about working at a radio station....it's the enjoyment of doing something I've wanted to do since I was 14. Even a couple of places where I didn't like someone, I still enjoyed going to work. Like many, I've had to do 'other' jobs in between gigs and not many were fun. I've been a bank clerk, worked in an abbatoir, in the offset printing industry, factory work and also as a cleaner. Believe me, when you're cleaning vomit and turd from an overflowing toilet, you'd find radio fun anyday. I cherish each day a station has me on their books.
I find when you have a gig in radio you wake up with a smile on your dial every morning. Even on the bad days when the shit has hit the fan I still look forward to going to work.
I'm splitting hairs here but...
Catch Phrase was the program that Burgo had leading into the 9 news..not wheel of fortune...wheel of fortune was on 7 :-)
