This afternoon marks the end of a 26 year on air career for ABC Radio Sydney drive presenter Richard Glover.
Glover announced his retirement in October and has been on air until today.
A large crowd has gathered in the ABC’s large Ultimo tv studio to be part of the live audience for the last show, which is also being live streamed to facebook. He was joined in the last show by comedians Tommy Dean, Alex Lee and Tahir, as well as music from The Backsliders, including his son.
In an ‘exit interview’ with James Valentine for the last half hour of the show, Glover spoke about his transition from newspapers to radio, saying that the live interaction with the audience was the most significant difference between print and radio.
“It’s a privilege to talk to this smart ABC audience, I can’t have that forever, it’s time to share it…
“Chris Bath will replace me, it was my suggestion, it’s the first time management has ever listened to me,” he joked.
Part of the format is for the comedians to lampoon people and topics involved in the week’s news. This week it included the ABC.
Glover acknowledged his production crew, thanking Emma Crow, Jen Flemming, Pat Sunderland and the team of producers who have worked with him over the years.
