Star 104.5’s Matt Baseley runs 30kms and raises $18K for Movember

Co-host of Star 104.5‘s Gina & Matty Breakfast show, Matty Baseley ran 30km while broadcasting live on air on Friday morning, raising $18,000 along the way for men’s health charity Movember. Matty chose the distance to symbolise the 30 per cent rise in male suicide over the last decade.

After the run Matty said:

“It was a huge challenge, but it’s nothing compared to what some men are battling at the moment. The Central Coast has amazed me with their generosity, and to raise over $18,000 for this very important charity is just amazing. I couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished together.”

Over the month of November the Star 104.5 team set fitness goals, led individual fundraising efforts and those who could grew moustaches. $10K was raised before Matty started running with prizes including a three-night stay at Sea World Resort, further incentivised donations.

The month was more than just raising money; it also created a platform for meaningful conversations about men’s mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Throughout the campaign, Gina Jeffreys & Matty have spoken with community advocates including local real estate agent and host of the Chasing Optimism podcast, Mat Steinweide,

Gina, Matty’s cohost said:

“I always knew about Movember but never really understood what it was all about until now. As a mother of a young boy, it’s incredible to see the impact that having these conversations can have, and Matt is such a champion for the work he’s done for this cause.”

The conversation continues as Star 104.5 to support local initiatives and charities. Gina & Matty can be heard from 5:30am to 9am weekdays on Star 104.5 on The Central Coast.
