The ABC is wrestling to wrap-up its review of the underpayment of up to 2500 casual staff over the past six years, 10 months after the problem, which could cost millions of dollars, was publicly disclosed. The broadcaster has told staff that its review, which is being carried out with the help of accounting and advisory giant PricewaterhouseCoopers, is "almost complete", but stopped short of saying when it would start making payments. The cost of repaying casual staff will add to ABC’s financial woes after the government froze its annual funding freeze for three years. It will cost the organisation $84 million, of that $15m in the current financial year, plus $28m and $41m in the two following years, respectively. The ABC said it remains in talks with the Fair Work Ombudsman about "key issues in the review, and we are seeking to resolve those issues before we progress to payments".
