The BBC Trust took a "cavalier" attitude to public money by agreeing to a £450,000 (A$670,000) payoff for George Entwistle, despite him failing as director-general, an MPs’ report has found. The Commons Public Accounts Committee said it was "extremely concerned" that the trust had rejected an offer by the National Audit Office to conduct an immediate review of the payoff.
