THE sudden death of ABC broadcaster Alan Saunders on June 15 brought out warm responses on the Radio National website: the distinctive charm and warmth of his on-air persona contributed to this, but there was also a palpable sense of gratitude for the intellectual enterprise in which he spent his professional life.
