AFL commentator and 6PR’s Basil Zempilas will become the next Lord Mayor of Perth after he defeated Western Australian tourism commissioner Di Bain by just 284 votes.
He said it was a night he would never forget as he thanked family, his campaign team and supporters.
Mr Zempilas will be sworn in to the office on Monday following the first election at the council since it was suspended in 2018.
