THE prospect of a potential $4 billion merger between Nine Entertainment and Southern Cross Media is still alive after the Communications Minister sent a key rule on media ownership to a parliamentary committee. Senator Stephen Conroy will include the removal of the reach rule, which prevents networks broadcasting to more than 75 per cent of the population, in a package of wider reforms if the proposal is approved by the parliamentary committee next week.
