Growing up in country NSW, lending a hand to someone in need became second nature for Tim Gavel. The sports broadcaster was "a bit embarrased" by the news of being awarded a medal of the Order of Australia, but the man who never seems to take a break from the ABC airwaves was also recognised for his contribution to the Canberra community.
