His ballsy plan to acquire and transplant 2Day FM’s longtime breakfast show team Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson to what was formerly MIXFM has not only lifted revenue at Sydney radio’s one-time poor cousin, Australian Radio Network, it has also produced the greatest battle Sydney FM radio has seen for years.
FM breakfast radio — the most lucrative timeslot in the game — has been reinvigorated with a tussle that takes us back to the 1990s when Triple M’s once unassailable 1980s breakfast star Doug Mulray lost his lead to 2Day FM’s 1990s comedy duo Wendy Harmer and Peter Moon — a winning partnership which endured for a decade until 2002.
