Union speechless at $1.7m radio training for rail staff

The SMH covers the State Rail radio school training project, which has been awarded to AFTRS, a fact radioinfo readers have known about since we broke the news last year. The newspaper reports: Garbled or non-existent announcements have been the bane of many passengers, but the rail union has accused management of going overboard on voice coaching worth $1.7 million, at a time when RailCorp is slashing 1500 jobs, including 100 suburban station masters. The NSW branch secretary of the Rail Tram and Bus Union, Alex Claassens, said the contract – signed last month – was a ”ridiculous proposition.”
