Hot Tomato Journalist

1029 Hot Tomato is looking for an experienced journalist to join the news team at the number one radio station on the sunny Gold Coast.

The successful applicant will be joining a vibrant newsroom providing news for the Gold Coast’s only 7-day a week local radio news service as well as online at myGC.com.au.

Applications are invited from candidates with a degree in journalism or similar, a strong news sense and experience writing for online.

We’re seeking someone who can hit the ground running for an immediate start.

You will:

  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience in a radio newsroom
  • Have an excellent knowledge of news and sport, understanding you will be providing a large amount of local news to our audience
  • Be able to seek out stories that are interesting and engaging.
  • Work well in a high-pressure environment and be confident in delivering news bulletins to deadlines.
  • Be accurate and thorough in your fact-checking and have a good understanding of media law
  • Be able to work solo and in a team environment
  • Be able to generate online content for our website myGC.com.au and have an understanding of social media

Ideally, you will have a working knowledge of NewsBoss, WordPress and related on-air systems and software but if not, you’ll be supported in acquiring these skills on the job.

The role will involve shift work including on weekends and flexibility after hours.

A current driver’s licence is preferred.
