About us

Based in the remote western desert of WA, we are an indigenous media organisation telling unique stories through radio, music, film and television.  We train, we create, we present exciting music and stories.

Our Vision is to empower Yarnangu (the Aboriginal people of the region) to create and share their own stories through multimedia. NG Media is where the gap between cultures is filled with stories and shared across the nation.

We’re celebrating music, language and culture with a great range of events, our TV productions feature the Yarnangu people in front and behind the camera, and our state-of-the-art facilities and radio station produce music and video for the Yarnangu people.

Opportunity

NG Media’s Creative Content Coordinator will primarily be responsible for coordinating the production of culturally appropriate content for a range of different media, with the goal of training Yarnangu (Aboriginal people of the region) to become self-directed in these areas. This includes creating content for radio broadcast and social media and facilitating and recording live events. You will be based in both Wingellina and Warburton communities.

Your time will be split between training local community members in music production and recording skills in general, so that they can produce their own media content (music, radio, podcast, video etc.) with their own unique voice, as well as helping coordinate live events with an emphasis on training locals so they can be empowered to run their own and updating social media platforms.

You may also work with schools to engage children in creating content and work with other community services to produce relevant content such as advertorials, educational information, and documentary style projects.

Other responsibilities include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Travel to beautiful desert communities in Ngaanyatjarra Lands,
  • Record or play live musical performances fortnightly on NG Media’s 107.7,
  • Testing and maintaining all technical equipment and instruments for safe use,
  • Discuss, coordinate, and facilitate culturally appropriate performances with local cultural advisors
  • Liaise with stakeholders, schools, community groups, and external media sources,
  • Report fortnightly to the General Manager, and,
  • Identify, recruit, and train local assistants to your position to teach music and dance and coordinate events.

You’ll have the privilege of empowering local students and community members to pursue their creativity.

This is a 10-month full time contract from Feb-Dec 2023, with a possibility of extension based on funding.
