Senator Abetz says the millions of dollars the ABC will spend on a new lifestyle website requires a full explanation.
“The ABC can’t keep having it both ways. They can’t keep crying poor then magically pull millions of dollars out of thin air for their pet projects.”

The national journalism and media literacy conference, Navigating the News, has released its full program, featuring leading national and international journalists and academics.

ABC and University of Tasmania national conference to explore public's declining trust in media

The ABC and the University of Tasmania will present a two-day conference in Hobart in September to explore the public’s declining trust in the media and how news organisations are responding.

'Navigating the News Conference', to be held at the University of Tasmania, Hobart on 10-11 September 2018, will bring together leading Australian journalists and academics to discuss trust in journalism and how to collaborate to help better inform citizens.

ABC rejects competitive neutrality criticism in submission

The ABC’s submission to the Federal Government’s inquiry into competitive neutrality rejected “any notion that the ABC has an unfair advantage or is crowding out commercial media companies.”

Public and commercial media had successfully co-existed in Australia since the founding of the ABC 86 years ago.

“This mixed media model has contributed enormously to media diversity, a well-informed public and a richer Australian culture,” according to Managing Director Michelle Guthrie.

ABC Managing Director Michelle Guthrie today emailed staff with a set of Principles for how national broadcaster will conduct itself.

After consulting widely, Guthrie has a plan to "improve the way we do things at the ABC." She wrote:

"The noise in the external environment shouldn’t prevent us from pursuing this important work. Now more than ever we need to use our collective passion to make the ABC the best it can be – for you and for our audiences.
