Fred Botica hangs up the headphones for the last time as Dean Clairs joins ‘The Bunch’

96FM’s Botica’s Bunch will have a new name from Monday, with the legendary Fred Botica deciding to retire after 50 years in radio.
Dean “Clairsy” Clairs will join Lisa Shaw on-air from Monday to launch 96FM’s new breakfast show, The Bunch.
Although The Bunch won’t officially launch until next week, Clairsy will be on-air at 96FM from tomorrow morning for Fred’s final show of Botica’s Bunch.

96fm wraps up 40 years in 40 days with a car giveaway

Fremantle Docker’s legend Matthew Pavlich popped the bubbles for Fred and Lisa to celebrate the milestone.
Fred and Lisa have been on-air together since 1997, having earned their place as the most successful breakfast team in Perth radio history, together winning a record 100+ consecutive surveys in Perth.

Just a week after announcing that Paul Hogan and Lisa Fernandez were leaving96FM has moved to reclaim its Perth heritage with the return of Botica’s Bunch for Breakfast, hosted by arguably the best voice in the history of Perth radio, Fred Botica, and his long-term radio partner Lisa Shaw.

If you thought it was all over for Fred Botica when he retired after 21 years at mix94.5 in May, you may also have been sucked in by John Farnham’s ‘last ever concert tour’ and ‘Emad’s Carpet Warehouse closing down sale.’

Now the legendary broadcaster is back to where his Australian radio career started in the 1980’s, 96FM. At that time it was the only FM station in Perth.

Mix94.5’s long-time Breakfast and Drive host Fred Botica, has announced that he will be leaving the station that has been his home for the past 21 years.

Fred said: “In over 44 years, I have been on seven radio stations in NZ and Australia, and the longest time has been on mix94.5, over 21 years. That’s a long time. So many relationships, so many achievements, and so many memories. So difficult to make the decision to leave. But I feel it’s time to move on. Time for another chapter.”

Fred Botica is returning to the Mix 94.5 airwaves next Tuesday March 4 in the new time-slot of 4pm-7pm with long time co-host, Lisa Shaw.

After over two decades in breakfast radio, the move to drive for Fred means he can now enjoy a bit of a sleep in.

Fred said: “I’m not really sure what it’s going to be like, it’s not far away now so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m really looking forward to it, only six sleeps!”
