David Anderson has been confirmed as the ABC's new Managing Director.

Acting ABC Managing Director David Anderson performed well in his first Senate committee hearing last week in Canberra.
 
Answering a range of questions about the turmoil of the last couple of months, Anderson was forthcoming about issues facing the national broadcaster as he answered the questions from Senators.
 
In an opening statement he said:
 

"I don't have a relationship with Government. I am focused only on the ABC and independence," new ABC Acting Chair Kirstin Ferguson told ABC News.

Following yesterday's resignation of Justin Milne, ABC board member Kirstin Ferguson will be appointed Acting Chair.

She is the Prime Minister's preferred choice for the full time role, but her appointment will need to be confirmed by the Governor General and to fit within the formal process of appointing an ABC Chair.

In the wake of Justin Milne's resignation from the position of ABC Chairman, Acting Managing Director David Anderson has put out a message to ABC staff:

Dear Colleagues,

As everyone is now aware, Justin Milne has resigned as ABC Chairman after several very difficult days for the ABC.

ABC Chairman Justin Milne has resigned amidst of allegations of political interference.

The crisis within Australia's national broadcaster began on Monday when Managing Director Michelle Guthrie was sacked.

Within 24 hours allegations against Justin Milne began to emerge amidst threats of legal action from Guthrie.

Members of the ABC Board are currently meeting with Chairman Justin Milne to discuss his future.

It is believed the board members are urging him to stand aside as ongoing revelations about his role in pressuring the former Managing Director continue to emerge.

Leaks continue from those supporting the sacked Managing Director and those supporting the board, as both parties position themselves for threatened legal action concerning Michelle Guthrie's sacking.

ABC staff were reported to have been seen high fiving* in the foyer when news of Michelle Guthrie's sacking was released on Monday.

There is set to be more disruption within the national broadcaster today as Chairman Justin Milne's position becomes increasingly untenable after revelations that he emailed Michelle Guthrie urging her to sack Emma Alberici during a dispute over an article she wrote earlier this year.

Justin Milne has been appointed as the Chairman and a non-executive director of the ABC Board.
