40 years of Jays - the celebrations begin

In 1975, the already venerable ABC launched a new youth oriented radio station called 2JJ in Sydney. Its aim was to bring music, culture, news and comedy to young people in a way that had never been heard before. 

The station’s irreverent style and forward thinking changed the face of Australian radio forever. Four decades later, and now a national network, triple j continues to be as passionate and provocative as ever.

Voting is now open for triple j’s Hottest 100 where listeners are urged to vote for their 10 favourite songs of 2014.

Continuing its tradition, triple j will countdown the 100 songs that received the most votes on Australia Day 2015.

The Doctor f***s off

After 10 year of presenting on Triple J, Lindsay McDougall, a.k.a The Doctor has hung up his headphones.

The Doctor’s first on air shift at the J’s was in 2005 as a breakfast presenter alongside Frenzal Rhmob bandmate Jay Whalley. He continued for five years through various changes in presenters until 2010 when he took over the drive seat.

Triple J and UNHCR head to the Middle East

This week Australia for UNHCR’s Greg Mills and ABC Triple J journalist Tom Tilley are on the ground together in Jordan, reporting on the refugee situation in the region 12 months on from the Australia for UNHCR and ABC Syrian Crisis Appeal.

All three reports have aired on Triple J’s Hack and explain what life is like right now for the many millions of Syrian and other refugees seeking safe haven in Jordan.

Last year the ABC’s Syrian Crisis appeal saw Australians raise more than $400,000 for aid agencies working there.

Matt & Alex’s J Trade ends with a donation

triple j Breakfast’s Matt & Alex have concluded their quest to trade Matt Okine’s relatively worthless $10 expired scratchie ticket for a $7000 snow cone and fairy floss business which they have donated to youth charity Red Frogs.

The mission, which began over 3 months ago, has seen the boys travel across the country to exchange the scratchie for a Pokemon card, then a car, a pregnant alpaca named Lucky, a diamond ring and finally everything they needed to become the owners of an ice shaving business.
