First radio survey for Orange since 2001

Commercial radio stations in the central western NSW city of Orange have the results of the first radio ratings survey conducted in the region since 2001.

Star FM was the station listened to most with 32.5%, followed by 2GZ FM with 24.8% and ABC Local Radio 11.9%.

Joan Warner, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio Australia, said radio had played a historically important role in providing live news and information, as a quarter of households in Orange reported they had no internet connection at the time of the last Census in 2011.

“Radio has been a mainstay for local communities, who rely on it as an important source of real-time information and entertainment,” she said.

In breakfast the hit music station Star FM was again number with 33.4%, followed by 2GZ FM with 23.2% and ABC Local Radio 13.3%.

The survey is one of 25 regional radio surveys to be undertaken throughout Australia this year following the introduction of a new, more cost-effective system for undertaking surveys in regional areas.
