14,950 breakfast items donated in ABC Radio Perth’s Breakfast Blitz

Across August 720 ABC Radio Perth and Uniting WA put the call out for breakfast items to help people experiencing homelessness this winter.
The Breakfast Blitz campaign saw a listener Heather so moved by a chat between breakfast presenter Mark Gibson and a young man called Brendon who had became homelessness after a series of unfortunate events, that she purchased Brendan and his family a car complete with a boot load of groceries.
After days of counting by Uniting WA volunteers tallied the donations. Nearly 15,000 items worth more than $80,000.
“The results speak volumes about the power of collective action and community support.
A special thank you to the team at ABC Perth and Mark Gibson for helping us bring this incredible initiative to life in a way we never imagined possible.
Thank you to the WACA – Western Australian Cricket Association for providing BBQs at the ABC Breakfast Blitz outside broadcast listener event, and the Rotary Club of Perth City East for for serving up delicious breakfast to hundreds of people on the day.
Whether you shared the campaign, subscribed to our newsletter or donated money, it all makes a difference!”
