180 stations sign up for ANZAC DAY

A record number of commercial stations will be broadcasting the Radiowise ANZAC Day package of programs between now and April 25th.

Joint CEO of Radiowise (owners of this site), Peter Rubinstein told radioinfo that we’ve been doing an ANZAC day package since 1995 and the participation rate among stations continues to rise. Correspondingly, it’s clear that radio has played a pivotal role in the resurgence of public interest in ANZAC Day and other commemorative activities over the past decade”.

The program package is produced in two strands, one for over 35’s and one for under. This year’s segments feature:

  • the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba
  • 65th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin
  • 65th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea
  • 65th Anniversary of the Kokoda Track
  • 65th Anniversary of Milne Bay
  • Australian Army Major who just returned last week from 6 months in Afghanistan
  • Chief of the Defence Force
  • Young Australians who made the pilgrimage to Gallipoli
  • Young Australians who march on ANZAC Day with, or in place of, a relative

  • While Radiowise, in its own right, has won several ACRA/Rawards in the past for their commemorative programs, other stations such as Triple M and 2UE have also won awards that incorporated material provided by Radiowise as part of their entries. What makes this package so popular with stations is that it enhances any other activity that stations have planned locally.

Production for this year’s package is funded in Queensland by the Qld ANZAC Day Commemoration Committee and the Australian War Memorial in the rest of Australia which means that the program is delivered to stations free of charge.

Rubinstein said that despite 180 stations already broadcasting the program there are still some markets in which we’re still looking for broadcast partners. “Armidale, Cooma, Gunnedah, and Lismore come to mind as among the few markets where we still have a hole.”

The Supernetwork’s 2NZ station manager, Greg Kachel when speaking about the ANZAC Day package told radioinfo, “We have used the series for years, it’s wonderful. I think it makes us aware of what the diggers went through. It’s a great, educational series and very poignant.”
