The i98FM Illawarra Convoy has surpassed all expectations, raising a staggering $2,502,020 for the Illawarra Community Foundation, as announced on-air this morning with i98’s Marty, Christian and Bella.
Through the generous donations given during the Lead Bike and Truck Auction last week, over $1.6 million was raised before the event even began.
Today’s final tally takes the total funds raised since the event’s inception in 2005 to $27,693,636.
“The unwavering generosity of the Illawarra community continues to amaze me,” says Bill White, i98FM Illawarra Convoy Manager.
“Especially in these tough economic times, it’s incredibly humbling to see local businesses and families come together to support those in need.”
“We’re so proud of how this event has grown in the past twenty years and it’s thanks to the incredible staff, volunteers, local businesses and especially the amazing Illawarra Community that sees this event grow each year.”
Thousands of people lined the streets, as Sunday’s historic event saw 672 motorbikes and 715 trucks travel from GM3 Appin down Mount Ousley, finishing with a free Family Fun Day at Shellharbour Airport.
“Funds raised through Convoy stay here in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands to help individuals and families battling life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses,” says i98’s Marty Haynes, who founded Convoy, which saw him awarded an Order of Australia Medal.
“After twenty years, it’s truly heartwarming to see the community unite to ease the burden on those facing immense challenges.”
