2CC and 2CA move into new studios

2CA and 2CC have moved into the new state-of-the-art Canberra Radio Centre in Crace.

The Centre is a purpose built, multi-million-dollar investment in radio broadcasting for the Canberra region, boasting eight radio studios equipped with the very latest digital broadcasting technology.

This is the 5th home for 2CA since it commenced broadcasting in 1931, originally from the back room of an electrical store in Kingston and since then, 2CA has broadcast from locations on Northbourne avenue and from premises in Mitchell.

It is the 3rd home for 2CC since it became Canberra’s second commercial radio station in 1975, and it is now situated next door to its original home on Bellenden St, near the Barton Highway.

The Canberra Radio Centre also accommodates Canberra’s DAB digital stations, Kix Country, My Canberra Digital, Snow Digital and Coles Radio.

General Manager of Radio Canberra, Michael Jones says: “This is a great new facility for our staff and an investment that speaks to the strength of radio broadcasting in the nation’s capital city. 2CA and 2CC now enjoy the very best broadcasting facilities in Australia.”

Canberra’s first commercial station, 2CA, was established by Jack Ryan and began broadcasting in 1931 with a small 50 watt transmitter from the back of Jack’s electrical repair shop, then moved several times, including to premises in Morth Street Braddon and Northbourne Avenue (pictured below)

In 2017, just after the first sod was turned to begin construction of the new building, Michael Jones told radioinfo about the plans to move from the ageing building in Mitchell (pictured below) to the brand new premises that the stations have just moved into.
