2CHY struggles as former manager again in court on misappropriation charges

Coffs Harbour community station 2CHY is struggling to get back on its feet after $150,000 went missing from the station. The station’s former manager has appeared in court again this week on charges of ‘fraudulent misappropriation’ in relation to the missing money.

Thirty three year old Jason Roe, now residing in Brisbane, had his case adjourned until later this month, with his bail conditions continuing.

Meanwhile, the youth station, which has propelled many young people on to successful media careers, has appointed a new, unpaid, manager, who is trying to bring more funds into the station to get it back on its feet.

Local business and service groups in the town are reported to be rallying around in support of the station and its drive for new revenue to keep it afloat.

CHY FM was launched in 1973 with the concept of nurturing the talents of the youth in the local area. Many Coffs Harbour businesses donated material, time and advice and CHY (Coffs Harbour Youth) made its first broadcast on 1st December 1973.

More than 4000 students have completed the CHY training and broadcast experience.
