2nd Semester AFTRS courses include digital radio and licence renewal seminars

AFTRS Radio Branch has announced a new set of courses which begin this semester to satisfy demand from various radio sectors.

A new workshop for community stations embarking on licence renewals has been piloted in Sydney and is ready to be delivered in various other cities and towns if needed by community stations.

Head of Radio Steve Ahern says: “The ABC66 Licence Renewal Workshop is designed to help station boards of management use the licence renewal process to refresh enthusiasm within the station and consider some of the issues they might face when applying for renewal.”

AFTRS Radio Branch is also offering a new course on digital radio in Sydney, and a Music Directors course in Brisbane for the first time this semester. Both will be run during September.

AFTRS will also offer Sales and Marketing courses for Commercial Radio from the end of 2005, and has begun a new full time course by flexible delivery.

Ahern says the Flexible Delivery course has been under way since the beginning of this year:

“This new course has eight select students in it this year who are now well into their course. They will soon launch their X FM broadcast and, when they finish at the end of the year, will be looking for work, mostly in the non-commercial sector of the radio industry.

“Like our well known commercial radio course, which has been running for many years, this new Flexible Delivery course has selected high quality broadcasters and trained them comprehensively. They will undoubtedly make their mark on the industry as past AFTRS graduates have done.”

Enquiries about any of these courses can be directed to AFTRS Radio Branch on 02 9805 6586.

Applications for this semester’s short courses and 2006 full time enrolments are now open.
