No 2SM has not wrenched the football rights from 2GB. 2SM’s “Talkin’ Sport” team has won the inaugural 2005 NRL Media Touch Football Tournament organised by the NRL for all media organisations.

Led by Jimmy Smith the 2SM team defeated other “hot contenders” from Rugby League Week, Big League, Fox Sports,

Daily Telegraph and the NRL.

2SM drew in their semi final with the NRL team headed up by David Gallop and former NRL player Michael Buettner, but that was not enough to stop the undefeated “Talkin’ Sport” team going through to the final.

With the scores level after regular time, it took an intercept try in Golden Point time for 2SM to take out the premiership.

2SM star players included Ben Ezekiel, Dale Walker, Mark Cruickshank and Jono Farr.

2SM’s Coach Mike Niu and trainer Dallas Baker said: “this is just the start of 2SM showing the way in sport, wait till we get Bill Caralis on the paddock next year, the best is yet to come.”
