3AW and Nick McCallum have had to apologise for an interview that wrongly blamed ‘African guys’ for a gang attack on Christmas Day.
The brother-in-law of the victim made the incorrect claim onair Friday evening, but on Saturday McCallum said the report was incorrect, writing on Twitter, “From later reporting it is clear that was wrong. We apologise to the African community.”
Melbourne lawyer Nyadol Nyuon replied on Twitter that the correction came too late for African communities in Melbourne
Sadly this is too late’ for African communities.
Also misidentification is not rare. There has been reports of people seeing Africans’ where none were there, that is partly because of the media role in emphasising the race of certain groups more than others. https://t.co/gTP8ogaHeZ
