4BC’s Greg Cary on his memoir, radio career and defining moments in life

4BC stalwart, Greg Cary, has stepped back into the studio for the first time since retiring to his farm in 2013.

Well known to listeners of 4BC, Cary says radio remains as important as ever, telling Sofie Formica, “… you know radio retains that almost unique capacity to be a friend.

“Whilst here’s so much change in the media … I think radio prospers on that relationship.”

On his memoir, An Absence of Certainty he says, “I think when you are writing a memoir about one life .. my aim was to perhaps relate to the lives of a lot of people who might read this book.

“It’s the life of this city and this state from 1980 onwards when I first arrived here, it’s all the events from Expo, the international events, all the things we went through, they are my observations.”

In the memoir, Cary talks about his own sexual abuse as a child and says, “I hope it might help one or two others as well.”
