A bumper weekend of celebrations awaits, as 4CA – the longest-running radio station in Cairns – officially marks 90 years on air tomorrow (Saturday, May 16).
4CA’s very first broadcast went to air back on Saturday, May 16, 1936.
When 4CA turned one, the occasion was marked with a radio ball at the Aquatic Dance Palais, which was aptly decorated with a miniature broadcasting system, the wires of which were replaced with satin ribbons.

Fast forward to today, and 4CA Breakfast Murray Jones says 4CA is proud to be the longest-running radio station in Cairns.
“4CA commenced broadcasting from a low set Queenslander in Grove Street in 1936 as Top of Australia Radio 4CA. Even though so much has changed over the past 90 years, 4CA has been a constant for the local community.”
“We are celebrating this milestone by looking back at some of the key moments in the region’s history – from the accidents and incidents, right through to the major development milestones which have driven the region’s economic successes. Even some of the key characters who were there when it happened have been brought back from the archives or are still here with us to tell their stories, the story of Cairns, and the story of 4CA.”

4CA’s current on-air line up is:
Breakfast with Murray Jones 5am-10am
Feel Good Workday with Campo 10am-1pm
Feel Good Workday with Karina 1pm-4pm
Saturdays with Steve 9am-3pm
4CA Content Director Mark Hine said “We’re all so proud of 4CA – 90 years and going strong! Like the ever-present mountains that surround Cairns, 4CA has been there for longer that most can remember. Happy birthday and may it continue playing Better Music and More of It!”

I had a lot to do with 4CA back in the 70's when Ray Furlong was GM. Congratulations on your anniversary
