4KQ day/night power switching to become permanent

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is seeking public comment on a proposal to vary the licence area plan for Brisbane Radio to formalise a change to 4KQ’s technical specifications which have seen it changing day/night power levels over the past 4 years, with a high level of success.

Since 2007, 4KQ has been conducting a day/night transmitter power switching trial in Brisbane on AM frequency 693 kHz from Wynnum Road, Wynnum West.

The results of this trial have seen a significant improvement in the coverage of the 4KQ service into the Brisbane licence area.

As the trial has now concluded, the ACMA proposes that 4KQ be allowed to adopt its day/night transmitter power specifications permanently.

The proposed changes are contained in the Draft Variation to Brisbane’s Licence Area Plan. Comments must be submitted by Friday 17 February.
