4MK turns 80 next month

4MK Mackay celebrates its 80th Birthday on January 12th next year, and of course the station is planning to celebrate. 4MK wants to hear from past employees to help make the anniversary a success.

The station went to air at 8pm on that day from the home of Jack Williams Snr, and has had several locations since. 4MK is now in the same building as it has been since 1971.

In 2005 4MK had a visit from Jean Williams, the widow of Jack Williams who started the radio station. She presented the station with the stations’ first ever microphone from 1931.

Prime Radio Mackay Program Director / Operations Manager Scott Linden has told radioinfo: “We’re looking to hear from former staff / announcers who have worked here over the years. Would love to get an email or phone call from former staff of 1026 4MK.”
