4ZZZ Radiothon 2018 is aimed to “Keep Brisbane Weird”

Brisbane’s 4ZZZ, the city’s oldest FM radio station, is heading into its annual Radiothon tomorrow.

Over the 10-day subscriber drive they will be asking listeners to become financial supporters of the station.

This year’s theme ‘Keep Brisbane Weird’ is a celebration of the cultural obscurities that have come out of the city and shaped the culture over the years.

The station broadcasts 85 original programs on 102.1 as well as further offerings on its digital channel.

Station Manager, Grace Pashley, says “50% of the stations operating revenue is raised in the next 10 days and (Radiothon) is vital for the station…it’s exciting but exhausting”.

As for most community broadcasters, the 4ZZZ Radiothon is a celebration of the community who rally around the station with support from year to year.

Grace says that apart from the fundraising “It really about communicating the value of community radio.”
