A league of their own – 21 years of the A-Team on Coast FM

Coast FM 963 is celebrating its A‑League commentary crew, affectionately known across the Central Coast as the A‑Team, after their 21st season following the Central Coast Mariners.

Across more than 650 Mariners matches, since the club’s very first match, the A‑Team led by Dr Trent Dickeson, alongside Luke Byrne, Dan McCamley and Katrina Ashleigh, have been there: headsets on, microphones live, and passion at full volume.

If there were an award for the most matches covered by an A‑League commentary team, it would be theirs in a landslide. And ahead of National Volunteer Week, their dedication deserves acknowledgement too.

Coast FM General Manager Sarah Warry said:

“What so many people don’t realise, because of the quality of the coverage, is that the A‑Team are volunteers.”

And what an adventure it has been.

In 2024 the A-Team flew 11,000 kilometres across the globe to Muscat, Oman, where they broadcast live from the AFC Cup Final, where the Mariners defeated Lebanon‘s Al-Ahed 1-0 to lift the trophy in one of the club’s most memorable international triumphs.

Dr Dickeson said distance has never been a barrier:

“We have followed the Mariners far and wide to places like Japan, China and Korea, so we were not going to miss such a significant match even if it was in Oman.

“Our dedication comes from the desire to bring the sport and the Mariners to every supporter and passionate local on the Central Coast. As we say: Whenever and wherever the Mariners play, you will hear it here on Coast FM 963.”

The A‑Team are a fixture of the Mariners’ experience. Their voices are now as familiar as the club anthem, with supporters tuning in from the stands, from home, and from overseas to hear Coast-FM’s A‑Team calling every moment, every goal, and every chapter of the club’s story.
