The most quickly evident outcome of GfK Radio 360 Survey 6 cumulative results was that the initial hype surrounding Kyle and Jackie O’s move onto Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1, usurping Jase and Lauren, who would end up on Nova 100, has somewhat died down. People have settled back on smooth (with Sydney’s smooth 95.3 the most listened to station in Australia) and talk from 3AW (Ross and Russ on breakfast up 1.2 to 22.5 as well) with the Olympics, AFL and NRL finals not faring quite as well for 3AW’s Sydney sister station 2GB.
Kyle and Jackie O, in Sydney, are still the most listened to breakfast show in the country. They and KIIS 106.5 are both No 1 this survey, knocking 2GB from the top and some recompence for losses in Melbourne.
Before we go any further about Sydney and Melbourne, congratulations to Nova 93.7 Perth’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun, No 1 in Breakfast with a 16.4% share and the increase of 11,000 cumulative listeners puts them above Ben Fordham at 2GB and any Brisbane or Adelaide breakfast show too.
The most impressive gains in cumulative listening on breakfast this survey were for Scott Menz on Melbourne’s Magic 1278. Bogart Torelli on smooth 95.3, alongside her Melbourne 91.5 counterpart Mike Perso (on the right, main picture) is a consistently quiet achiever. BBQ Bob Gallagher, and 4BH are threatening the top FM stations in Brisbane now and 3MP‘s easy music in Melbourne also saw significant growth. A real reflection that in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane classic hits and smooth formats are flourishing. An additional final mention for Scott Menz, who alongside his Melbourne Magic breakfast show, follows BBQ Bob on mornings in Brisbane and is doing very well there too.
Listening to ARN’s Gold 104.3 in Melbourne and WSFM in Sydney were steady. The ABC saw gains in Melbourne, but not on breakfast. RSN 927 and Sky Sports Radio both showed people are exploring the dial for other sporting content too.
