The 6th radio ratings survey results for 2024 have been released.
- No Olympic Gold for 2GB as it slips off its overall top position in Sydney, down 3.1% into 4th place in the market. With Olympics coverage being largely overnight, the station’s breakfast shift was significantly affected
- KIIS 106.5 has jumped to top overall position in Sydney, but has lost ground in Melbourne
- ABC Radio Sydney’s new breakfast presenter Craig Reucassel (also with AM and Sarah Macdonald in the timeslot) has taken a big chunk out of Ben Fordham’s 2GB breakfast show, with Fordham losing 3.1 share points. ABC and WSFM divided up the spoils of Fordham’s drop, with Reucassel nabbing 1.2% and Jonesy and Amanda grabbing 1.3% of share in that timeslot
- Nine Radio stations in the other cities were not as badly hit by the overnight Olympics coverage as Sydney, although the surge that is normally seen for Nine’s talk and sport stations during footy finals season was not as evident as usual, another indicator that the Olympics may have damaged Nine’s results (but perhaps not its revenue).
- Disrupt Radio is now gone from the DAB+ airwaves, with consistently low survey numbers and reports the company was not able to pay its DAB+ licence rental fees to SEN. It will now pursue a different audio strategy.
- Nova’s Priceline Radio appears on DAB+ in Sydney and Melbourne for the first time in this survey.
- New leader in Adelaide as Mix 102.3 jumps ahead of Triple M
- New leader in Perth as 96fm overtakes Nova
The survey was conducted by GfK for Commercial Radio Australia between Sun Jul 7 to Sat Sep 14, 2024. With the rolling survey structure, this still includes the Olympics, as well as footy finals season.

* 2GB. Ray Hadley's 0900-1200 and John Stanley's 2000-0000 program are market leaders.
Another page displays the ratings for DAB+ channels. Sky News is a recent addition so there are aren't figures.
I cannot make an evaluation of whether Sky News has taken away listeners from 2GB.
In addition the Olympic Games coverage started well before Sky News was added to the DAB+ band.
However I will say Sky News is engaging with breaking news and talks/interviews with guests from overseas especially in the US and Middle East.
There are panel shows with regular guests. That is something that 2GB did well before changes were made to 2GB's programming four years ago.
If you liked Andrew Bolt, Rita Panahi, Peta Credlin and Ross Greenwood who were on 2GB you'll like Sky News.
My hope is that Sky News remains as an FTA service on DAB+.
*4BC, KIIS 101.1 breakfast. The breakfast team on 4BC were an instant hit when they transferred from 4KQ to 4BC. The audience topped the ratings when they started at 4BC then the audience delined by 50%.
In contrast KIIS 101.1 breakfast replacement. K & J O ratings have declined.
It may take time to develop an audience. Otherwise if the audience continues to decline, it is the risk of doing business.
Note the irony of dismissing Jase and Lauren from KIIS 101.1 only to do well 9.6% on Nova compared to 5.9% for K and J O'.
On the other hand you are only a success based on the previous results: breakfast from 4KQ to 4BC was short lived. In contrast Ray Hadley has delivered consistent results.
Thanks
Anthony, it's not whether a Sydney program works well in Melbourne since thete have been previous interstate successes, Strathfield South in the land of the Wangal andvSarug Peoples of the Eora Nation
