It was on July 12, 1962 that the first live performance by British R&B band The Rolling Stones was seen at the legendary Marquee Club in London. To mark The Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary in 2012, ABC digital radio is broadcasting a special event pop-up station – ABC Stones – this weekend.

It’s been a wonderfully long (and occasionally rocky) road since then, from playing Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley covers to their position in history as one of the ‘greatest rock & roll bands in the world’.

Starting at 3pm Friday July 13 and continuing until 11pm on Sunday July 15, ABC Stones will feature the music that made the group famous and kept them performing as one of the best live acts over the last 50 years.

ABC Stones is for music fans – whether you’re just discovering their amazing back catalogue or whether you were there the first time around.

ABC Stones will play in-full the band’s five major albums, which were released in order between 1968 and 1972 – “Beggars Banquet”, “Let it Bleed”, “Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!”, “Sticky Fingers” and “Exile On Main Street”, as well as delivering insights into each of these releases and a potted history of the band.

Figures recently released by Commercial Radio Australia indicate there are over 1.2 million people listening to digital radio in an average week and close to 800,000 digital radios in the market. Digital Radio can be heard in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
