ABC Gives will support charities under a single umbrella

The ABC has brought together its charity and fund-raising events under one name, ABC Gives.

Director of ABC Regional & Local, Judith Whelan, says the aim of the new name and site was to increase the impact and awareness of ABC Radio’s many fundraising campaigns across Australia.

She says, “Over the past 12 months, we raised nearly $2 million through campaigns supported by our metropolitan and regional teams and our New Year’s Eve fundraiser for Lifeline.  Other charities that have benefited include The Giving Tree appeals in Tasmania and the ACT, flood appeals in New South Wales and fundraisers for Foodbank.

“Australians are very generous in times of crisis and need, particularly in the lead up to the festive season.  This new focus will allow us to increase the support we give to Australian charities and in turn, support those who need help the most.”

In the coming year the ABC is partnering with a range of charities to run appeals in each state including Lifeline, Foodbank, Anglicare, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and The Giving Tree Appeal.

All the funds raised will go directly to selected charity partners in each state and territory.
