ABC knit in returns for 702

702 listeners are sharpening up their knitting needles for the return of one of the station’s major community events, the 702 ABC Sydney KNIT IN.

The event, in its third successful year, will take
place on Friday 29 July between 5.30am and 9am, when James Valentine and the breakfast team will broadcast live from the ABC’s Ultimo Centre.

The station is calling on people all over Sydney and NSW to knit squares (25cm x 25cm, 8ply wool, size 8 needles) or donate wool to support the Wrap With Love cause.

Wrap With Love is a non-profit organisation, which orranges volunteers to sew squares into ‘wraps’. The ‘wraps’ are then sent to communities around the world to ensure no one suffers from the cold.

In 2004, ABC Local Radio listeners in NSW created more than 1100 wraps (that’s 30 800 squares) and donated 300kg of wool to the charity.

Valentine is out to beat former presenter, Angela Catterns’ record and have loads of fun in the process.

Donations of knitted/crocheted squares and wool must be received by Friday 22 July. Twelve collection points have been set up around Sydney and on the Central Coast.

Full addresses for each of the collection points can be found on 702 ABC’s website below.
