ABC Radio Melbourne has shown willingness to take their programs on the road with Ali Moore broadcasting Drive live from the badly bushfire affected town of Harcourt this afternoon, February 16, and Raf Epstein (pictured) hosting a live debate on Wednesday February 25 on the benefits, or not, of working from home.
These programs follow on from Ali’s conversation starter last November, prior to AC/DC performing in the city, that perhaps a group of bagpipers could congregate in Federation Square on the eve of the concert and play It’s a Long Way to the Top (if you wanna rock n roll) in tribute to Australia’s most successful rock band.
As context, AC/DC haven’t performed the song live since Bon Scott‘s death in 1980 and it is 50 years this week since the band recorded their iconic video clip for it on the back of a flat bed truck travelling along Swanston Street in Melbourne, with Bon playing the bagpipes.
Ali’s initial idea went viral and it was hoped that they might break a world record for bagpipers congregating and playing in the one space.
That they did, by 41, with 374 bagpipers turning up from all over the world, plus a good portion of Melbourne to savour the moment. It was my radio highlight of 2025.
It’s just over a than a month since fire ripped through Harcourt in the Central Highlands of Victoria, destroying more than 50 homes. As the community begins its recovery process, Ali will broadcast Drive live from the Harcourt Bowling Club from 3pm. The community is welcome to join her.
Next Wednesday the 25th, Raf Epstein who presents morning will open his program with a debate held at the ABC Melbourne Southbank Studios about working from home. Does it work for you? Does it change how much you get done in a workday? Should you have a legal right to do it?
You can express your interest in being a part of the live debate here.
Date: Wednesday, February 25
Time: 9-10am
Venue: ABC Southbank Studio – 120 Southbank Blvd, Southbank
