Tim Gavel has announced that he will retire after a brilliant 36 years of sports broadcasting when the Canberra Raiders win the 2025 NRL premiership at the end of the Canberra Raiders‘ campaign, however it happens, in the forthcoming NRL finals series.
I am trying to be impartial.
Tim has long been the voice of ABC Sport rugby league and union in Canberra. For ABC Grandstand he has also called the cricket as well as being part of ABC Radio‘s broadcast team for Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
A well known and much loved voice in the ACT, with the Canberra Raiders minor premiers this year and a home game against the Brisbane Broncos this Sunday, we’re all hoping that Gavel’s final call might just be the premiership the nation’s capital is getting just a wee bit excited about.
