ACMA renews Hornsby community broadcasting licence

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has renewed the licence for New South Wales community broadcasting service 2HHH Hornsby after the station was able to satisfy concerns raised by the Authority.

Jonquil Ritter, Executive Manager, National Licensing and Allocations Branch said: ‘In the course of the licence renewal process ACMA raised several issues with 2HHH FM Ltd, the licensee of 2HHH, concerning its operations and management. These included concerns with constitutional provisions relating to membership at the station, and with aspects of 2HHH’s financial management processes.’

‘After several months of discussion, 2HHH was able to satisfy ACMA’s concerns over these issues, either by resolving them directly, or by providing clear undertakings to ACMA that it would do so.’

ACMA will continue to monitor the operations of the station to ensure that these undertakings are met, and it reserves the power to take further action if this does not occur.

Ms Ritter said: ‘ACMA is charged with promoting the availability of a diverse range of radio services throughout Australia, as well as ensuring that broadcasters meet all of the requirements that the Act imposes’.

‘As the process and dialogue we have had with the licensee in coming to this decision successfully balances both of these objectives, it represents an acceptable outcome to the renewal process.’
