Adelaide Triple M poaches Mix 102.3’s entire breakfast team

Adelaide’s number one-rating FM breakfast team, Mix 102.3’s Kym, Ali and Dzelde have been poached by Austereo and are heading back to Triple M in 2008 to present a brand-new breakfast show.

The three stars have signed with Triple M after announcing they would not renew their contracts at ARN’s Mix station.

Kym Dillon, Ali Carle and Chris Dzelde have been Adelaide’s number one FM breakfast show since March last year – 12 ratings surveys on top.

They will replace Triple M’s John Blackman, Jane Reilly and Andrew Cosi Costello. Austereo will be “discussing other opportunities” with John, Jane and Cosi.

Austereo Adelaide general manager Peter Maynard has told radioinfo:

“They approached us as their contracts were up for renewal at the end of 2007 – they all originally come from Triple M, so they know what we do and they have a great affinity with the station… It’s a very positive reflection on where Triple M is headed that the top FM breakfast team in the city made the approach to join us.”

Maynard says the breakfast teams are a “perfect fit” for Triple M because they’re a “tight, professional unit” who are really passionate about radio, and their Adelaide listeners.

“You’ll see a slightly different show from them on Triple M – we don’t want to mess with success too much, but Kym Ali and Dzelde have massive potential that is still untapped.”

Maynard says Triple M’s association with the AFL as the official FM broadcaster also played a large role in the team wanting to join the statioin. “Kym in particular allows us to add another major element to our AFL commentary.”

ARN station executives did not comment publicly on the move, but sources say they were planning changes to the breakfast show once the team were out of contract, so may not not necessarily disappointed about the opportunity to change their format for 2008.
